The crush pad equipment has been stowed away, the fermentations are all but complete, and the barrels stacked and topped off. We are transitioning into the post-harvest ‘resting’ period in the cellar. Thanks to a very warm summer, the harvest season was both compact and early.
Starting on September 12th with Gruner and Cayuga, we were ‘done’ by October 18th when the last of the Cabernet Sauvignon rolled in, roughly two weeks ahead of the norm. 2024 was a bit of an anomaly in that we were the beneficiaries of a ripe AND bountiful vintage. Yields were up as well as sugar levels and overall fruit maturity, which appears will add up to a richer, more full-bodied expression not too dissimilar to 2023 but with more to go around!
Thanks to the largesse of the vintage, Billsboro was able to acquire a few bonus lots, including Pinot Blanc and Petit Sirah (thank you Nutt Road Vineyards), to add to what looks to be the biggest production year for us, capping off at around 5,000 cases!
We look forward to sharing many of these exciting wines with you in 2025 and beyond and thank you for your continued interest in our wines. With sincere gratitude from the cellar team, happy holidays to you!
