Front of Pinot Noir Label
Label detail |
Is it art or is it science? How about the art of science? The images on the front and back labels of our wines were provided by the Department of Horticultural Sciences at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. The front label is a cross section of an actual Finger Lakes grapevine as viewed under a high powered microscope. The back label features a grape leaf under a similar microscope. Professor Martin C. Goffinet explains what we see: Consider that all those little green islands get all their water and mineral nutrients through the little white vascular strands throughout the leaf blade, by pulling them up through those large open vessels seen in the woody stem cross section. Simultaneously, the sugars produced in the leaf go out from the leaf in those same white vascular strands and down the stem in those horseshoe-shaped groups having those parallel bands of fibers in them. The results? Grape cluster loaded with sugars and all the good things necessary for a perfect vintage! Enjoy! |
